Partners Lawrence C. Datz and Albert J. Datz were born and raised in Jacksonville, are “AV Preeminent 5.0 of 5” rated by their peers in Martindale-Hubbell, two of six Jacksonville Fellows of the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and listed in The Best Lawyers in America.
Lawrence Datz is also Board Certified in Marital & Family Law, serves on the Marital & Family Law Certification Committee of The Florida Bar, and is listed in Super Lawyers. He received his BS in Economics from Vanderbilt University (1980) and Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law (1983). Mr. Datz is a member of the Florida, Jacksonville, and American Bar Associations, served as a member of the Executive Council of the Family Law Section of The Florida Bar and chair and co-chair of numerous committees and subcommittees. Mr. Datz is a past President of the Florida Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and received that organization’s 2004 Volunteer of the Year award for his work with high conflict families. He is also a Master of the Bench in the Florida Family Law Inn of Court and a member of the Board of Directors of the DePaul School of Northeast Florida, Inc.
Albert Datz is also a Fellow of the esteemed American College of Trial Lawyers. He was a member of a special Supreme Court of Florida Matrimonial Commission, 2006 recipient of the Justice Raymond Erlich Trial Advocacy Award, and a recipient of The Florida Bar’s Selig Golden award for significant contributions to the Florida criminal justice system. Mr. Datz has represented local and national celebrities in family law matters. He is a member of the Florida, Jacksonville, and American Bar Associations, past board member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and former Chair of the Supreme Court committee which drafted the original Florida Rules of Criminal Procedure. Mr. Datz is an emeritus member of the Florida Family Inn of Court and the Chester Bedell Inn of Court (federal).
Stephen U. Pitel joined the firm in 2010. He received his BA from the University of Rochester (2006) and his Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School (2010). Mr. Pitel is a member of the Florida, Jacksonville, and American Bar Associations and an Associate in the Florida Family Law Inn of Court. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Mental Health America of Northeast Florida and a member of the advisory board of the Jacksonville chapter of the New Leaders Council.
