THE PLAYERS is more than a golf tournament and a showcase of elite golf and a world-class facility. THE PLAYERS week is filled with activities that highlight the “good side of sports,” most notably, a commitment to honoring the men and women who serve in the U.S. Military.
The Military Appreciation Day ceremony will also feature pageantry by military personnel and remarks by PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem, a player from the field (TBD) and a high-ranking U.S. Military officer. As part of the event’s annual Military Appreciation Day, the National Anthem will be performed by Preston Pohl, performer on the hit show The Voice, followed by a free concert from country music star Jake Owen. The ceremony and concert take place on the terrace and lawn behind TPC Sawgrass clubhouse. Please note: local media who are onsite during Jake Owen’s performance may utilize up to three minutes of footage in news coverage.
Vero Beach-native Jake Owen has been delivering chart-topping country hits, including four consecutive No. 1 singles since 2011. Owen earned GRAMMY and CMA nominations in 2008 with his revival of “Life in A Northern Town” with Sugarland and Little Big Town, and in 2009 he was named Top New Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music. Owen’s first headlining tour, CMT ON TOUR JAKE OWEN: THE SUMMER NEVER ENDS 2012, made CMT history for the most sold-out shows in a row for the annual nationwide tour.
THE PLAYERS will be making a surprise check donation to a Children of Fallen Patriots to pay the college tuition of a local military child who has lost a parent in the line of duty. The child will be present at the ceremony for the check presentation.
While military personnel and their dependents are admitted free, Military Appreciation Day also offers an affordable and entertaining day for the entire family. Youth 18 and younger are free (all week) with a ticketed adult. For the general public, Wednesday Practice Round tickets are only $25 for the entire day.
